Located 20 minutes outside of Athens, GA, Washington Farms is a beloved destination for families across Northeast Georgia to come and enjoy some hands-on "agritainment” during the spring and fall seasons. If you've not yet paid a visit during a Super Spring Saturday, it's worth slathering on some sunscreen, loading up the kids, and making your way over for the day. Families can enjoy 30+ kid-friendly farm activities, homemade treats and grill items, and even some strawberry pickin' to make for a full afternoon of fun.
My family recently paid a visit to celebrate their Super Spring Saturday's Opening Day and my 4-year-old made a mad dash to one of the jumping pillows as soon as we entered the front gate. After some intense bouncing and a water break, we ventured out to the rest of the farms' activities - there's so much to do! From petting goats and duck races, to obstacle courses and a cow train to ride, the farm is spacious and filled with activities for all ages. Plus, there's plenty of shaded seating throughout the farm so you can take a quick break while the kids play.

In the center of the farm, you'll find 2 playgrounds with stairs leading to various tube slides. One playground is moderately sized for younger ages, while the other is designed for the older kiddos who don't mind a bit of height to their slides. An additional playground is located on the right-side of the farm that features a pirate ship to climb in, a sandbox, tricycle track, and other toddler-friendly activities. There's also a corn box filled with dried corn kernels, buckets, and scoops for kids to climb in to enjoy some sensory play.
Towards the back of the farm is where you'll find the Petting Zoo. Step inside to meet goats, baby chicks, rabbits, donkeys, and Charlie the pig. After your petting is complete, feel free to use the complimentary hand washing station to ensure everyone has clean hands before returning to their activities. Clean restrooms are also available for use within the farm gates.
If you plan to visit with tweens or teens, there's plenty for their age group to enjoy, too! Ziplines, paintball, carnival-style ball throwing, human foosball, and the crowd-favorite: Mega Slide. For an extra $5 at your ticket purchase, guests that are over 42" tall can snag a tube to carry up the stairs then race down the track. It's super fun, and super fast.

Sweet Treats & Good Eats
No visit to a farm is complete without indulging in some specialty homemade treats. The cold slushies and ice cream are made with fresh strawberries, picked straight from their fields, and their kettle corn even has a "hint of strawberry" flavoring - it's scrumptious!
If you're looking to fill up on something a little more hearty for your lunch hour, guests and choose from popular grill items like burgers and chicken sandwiches, along with BBQ, chicken tenders, pizza, and fries. Please note there is a limited menu during the weekdays. See what food items they'll have prepared here.
Soft drinks, bottled water, and freshly squeezed lemonade are also available for purchase at the concession stands.

U-Pick Strawberries
Families are invited to grab a bucket to fill with fresh off-the-vine strawberries to take home and enjoy. Admission into the fields is $1 per person where guests will be provided a gallon-sized bucket used to gather their berry collection, along with a few helpful instructions on how to pick. Then, take your time searching through rows and rows of berry beds to find "the biggest strawberries ever!", according to my son.
Fill your buckets to the top, or half-way. Each gallon cost is $16.95+ tax with a reduced cost for those who pick a half-gallon. You are welcome to to purchase your bucket to keep for $1.50, or transfer your berries into your own container at the end of your picking session. Those who keep their buckets can bring them back for more picking until the end of May, or to reuse again next year!
The picking season begins annually in early-to-mid April and lasts through the end of May. Make sure you call before you head out to the farm, or visit the Washington Farms Facebook or Instagram pages to see if the fields are still open for visitors! Sometimes the rows have been "picked out" and need a little patience to replenish.
Don't have time to hand-pick? The farm also offers fresh pre-picked buckets for those in an hurry.
